ICC Men’s T20 WC 2022: When England announced their World Cup squad, England men’s cricket team managing director Rob Key stated that Hales’ name was in contention for the World Cup, but ultimately chose Bairstow to be on top with Jos Buttler. Gone.
Jonny Bairstow was the man to do so in the World Cup:-
“Alex Hales was mentioned when we talked about who was the best opening partner for Jose,” Key said.
“His name was mentioned a lot but we thought Jonny Bairstow was the man to do it in the World Cup.
I have said on several occasions that I think Alex Hales deserves his time for his misdeeds. Now it’s down to the form, the selection, and whether we think he’s the best person to go there.”
Bairstow’s decision to drop Jason Roy due to an injury and England’s poor form has opened the way for Hales to make an international comeback.
