ICC Women’s WC 2022: It is very real to feel so close to the WC and yet so far away, Heather Knight did not envision our build for this tournament in 2017, but a lot has happened in the world since then.

ICC Women’s WC 2022: It’s Very Real To Feel So Close To The WC And Yet So Far

I Wrote This:-

As I write this, we are on our fifth day of quarantine and we are not far from going out, thanks to the New Zealand government’s changes to isolation rules.

We are obviously waiting for consent to go back to training. Some of us cope better than others in quarantine but we are trying to stay busy.

We’re up to our eyebrows at crosswords, Sophie Ecclestone is running HIIT classes on Zoom, Freya Davies conducted a great quiz (including ‘Guess the baby picture’ which was awesome) and I’ve had a go at it. Got some inspiration.

Documentary on the first all-female crew participating in the Whitbread Round the World Race. It’s called Maiden and features some unique women—a documentary I highly recommend.

The Expected To Focus:-

As a group, what we expected to reset and re-focus after the Ashes series did not go our way. I am very happy with the way we started the series.

We went toe-to-toe with Australia and going into the ODI phase of the series the scoreline could have easily varied from the 6-4 deficit we fought.

Anyway, there was not enough mental energy to go back to the well and fight back in the ODI series.

ICC Women’s WC 2022

A multi-pronged Ashes series is inexorably demanding and when you throw in COVID it gets tough again. That’s no excuse – we didn’t deserve to win the series.

But I think it goes some way to explain our performance in the last two ODIs which I don’t think we were a good fit for.

I want us to use it in the ICC Women’s WC 2022- we hope to be stronger and more united to get out of the Ashes to retain our trophy.

The Privileged Experience To Be A Part:-

World Cups are really special events. There is nothing that quite compares, and you always feel privileged to be a part of it.

Obviously, I still think about that day at Lord’s and what it means to lift that trophy. I am extremely proud to be a part of the journey the women’s sport has had in England and Wales since that day.

I get goosebumps sometimes thinking what it means to retain the trophy for the sport back home, for all those young girls, and for all the players and staff who give their all for this team Huh.

But before we start daydreaming about potential success – we have to work very hard before we start with our practice games. I know we won’t leave anything there.
