The final of the World Test Championship will be played between India and Australia from June 7 at the Oval ground in London. For this both the teams have reached London. Both India and Australia have performed exceptionally well in this World Test Championship cycle. While the Australian team topped the points table with 66.67 per cent, Team India came second with 58.8 per cent. In such a situation, both the teams will now fight to become the Test champions. This will be India’s second consecutive World Test Championship final. In 2021, Team India had to face defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the final of WTC. At the same time, the Australian team has reached the final for the first time.

Test matches are being played between India and Australia since 1959. Whenever these two teams enter the field, along with the thrill in the match, many controversies are also seen. When Team India went to Australia in 2020, they were accused by the Australian media of violating the Corona Protocol. At the same time, when the Australian team came to India this year, it was furious with the defeat and accused Ravindra Jadeja of dishonesty.

Captain Gavaskar left the field in anger

In 1981, the Indian team was on a tour of Australia under the leadership of Sunil Gavaskar. Team India registered a resounding victory in the thrilling Test match played in Melbourne. However, this match was also in the headlines due to Gavaskar’s anger. Actually, Gavaskar got very angry with the decision of umpire Rex Whitehead to give out on Dennis Lillee’s ball and returned to the pavilion with Chetan Chauhan, who was batting together at that time. Later, controlling the situation, the team management sent Chauhan back on the field. By the way, Gavaskar later told about this whole incident that his displeasure was not with the decision but with the personal comments made by Lilly.

McGrath bouncer and Tendulkar lbw out

The series played in Australia in 1999-00 saw a fierce contest between Sachin Tendulkar and Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath. McGrath was eager for Sachin’s wicket and had done complete planning to get him out. He also dismissed Sachin in the Test match played in Adelaide but that dismissal gave birth to a new controversy. In fact, McGrath bowled a pitched ball which Sachin tried to leave considering it a bouncer but the ball did not bounce and hit Sachin’s shoulder. On McGrath’s appeal, umpire Daryl Harper gave Sachin out LBW.

Slater’s Misbehavior with Dravid

The Australian team was on a tour of India in 2001 and was heavily outnumbered by the Indian team. Meanwhile, there was a controversy regarding a decision of dismissal in the Test match played in Mumbai. In fact, during the match, Rahul Dravid played a pull shot but the ball did not hit the bat properly and rose in the air, which Michael Slater dived and caught. Although Dravid did not appear satisfied with the catch and stayed at the crease, former umpire S Venkataraghavan also adjudged him not out, even as TV replays cast doubt on Slater’s catch. Amidst all this, Slater started arguing with the umpire and also abused Dravid. Slater was later fined for his behaviour.

Harbhajan-Symonds Monkeygate Controversy

India’s tour of Australia in 2008 was mired in controversies for many reasons. There were many incidents like bad umpiring, personal comments which shook the entire cricket world. In this, the debate between Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds and Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh spoiled the atmosphere. It got to the point that the BCCI threatened to end the tour midway. In fact, Symonds alleged that Harbhajan had called him a monkey and it was a racist remark. The matter reached the Sydney Court where a disciplinary panel formed to investigate the allegations. During this, the Australian media wrote wrong things about Bhajji. Harbhajan banned for the first three Test matches in the whole matter, which later lifted.

Watson-Serious Controversy

In the year 2008, the Australia team was on a tour of India. No one can forget the debate between Gautam Gambhir and Shane Watson during the Border-Gavaskar series. Australian fast bowler Shane Watson was bowling in this match. Gambhir hits the shot and he runs away to take the run. While taking the first run, Watson said something to Gambhir, just then while taking the second run, Gambhir hit his elbow on Watson’s chest. Though Gambhir later termed it as an accident, the ICC banned him for one match.

When Virat Kohli made an obscene gesture

The Australian tour of 2011-12 was nothing short of a nightmare for India. The Indian team had to face a crushing defeat of 4-0 in the four-Test series. And Virat Kohli did something during the series, due to which this tour forever recorded in the pages of history.

In fact, in the second Test of the series, Virat Kohli did such an act on the middle ground, which made the whole of India bow its head in shame. Virat Kohli made an obscene gesture to the spectators in this match. 50 percent on Virat due to this wrong behavior
