IPL: Punjab Kings appointed this former veteran Australian player as assistant coach, will help Trevor Bayliss

Former Australia wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin has been appointed as the assistant coach for IPL 2023 by Punjab Kings. Earlier, the franchise also changed its head coach. The franchise had appointed World Cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the head coach, replacing Anil Kumble. Haddin, 44, had been on Punjab’s radar since the time he appointed Travel Bayliss as his head coach.

Haddin and Bayliss have worked together in the past

Haddin and Trevor Bayliss have worked together in the past. Both were also together in Sunrisers Hyderabad before this team. Haddin represented Australia in 66 Tests, 126 ODIs and 34 T20Is. An IPL source told PTI on Thursday – Haddin has been appointed as the assistant coach. Rest of the support staff will be appointed soon.

Apart from Kumble, the team also did not renew the contracts of assistant coach Jonty Rhodes and bowling coach Damien Wright. Former South African batsman Rhodes joined Punjab ahead of the 2020 edition, while Wright joined the team in 2021. The team had not been able to make the play-offs for the last three seasons. In such a situation, the team management decided to leave them.

In the last season, Mayank Agarwal was the captain of the team, but he could not live up to the expectations with the bat. He and Arshdeep Singh are the only two players who were retained by Punjab ahead of the 2022 edition. Now it will be seen whether Mayank is made the captain this season also or not.
