IPL Teams to be Allowed Only 4 Retentions

A consensus is understood to have been reached on the issue of player retention for the next IPL auction. And in all likelihood, the current eight franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of four players.

Informal Discussions took Place Between BCCI and Team Representatives During Some Final Days of the Recently Concluded IPL in AE

During some of the final days of the recently concluded IPL in the UAE, informal discussions took place between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team’s representatives. And all parties are believed to have agreed. How many players can a franchise have?

As before, a team will allowed to have a maximum of three Indian and two foreign players. which shall not exceed four in total. There may also be a limit on retaining uncapped players – no more than two will allowed to a team in an IPL.

If a Franchise Chooses to Retain Four Players in the IPL, it will have to Spend Around 40-45 Percent of its Purse

It learned that the purse of the player will be 90 crores. And in subsequent two years it will increase and purse will increase to Rs.95 crores and Rs.100 crores. If a franchise chooses to retain four players in the IPL, it will have to spend around 40-45 per cent of its purse. Which is Rs 36-40 crore less than the franchise that chooses not to retain any player.

The existing eight franchises told that two new teams may allowed to pick two to three players from the auction. Two foreign players may be allowed if big Indian names are not available. It is unlikely that teams will allowed Right to Match (RTM) cards in the auction.

A formal announcement on the retention rule will made soon after the sale of the two new teams. Which expected to take place on October 25 in Dubai by Friday (October 22). Some of the bidding parties have actually reached Dubai.
