James Taylor has been appointed batting coach at Leicestershire

James Taylor has been appointed batting coach at Leicestershire, his first role in professional cricket since he lost his job with the ECB in June.

Taylor had retired from the sport after being diagnosed with heart disease

Taylor retired from the sport 6 years ago after being diagnosed with rare heart disease. He then joined the ECB as a selector in 2018 after short-term coaching roles at Northamptonshire and England Marg.

Spent another year as head scout

The 32-year-old spent three years working with Ed Smith. and spent another year as a head scout after Smith’s national selector role was dropped in 2021.

He will serve under his former captain, Paul Nixon

Taylor spent four seasons playing for Leicestershire before moving to Nottinghamshire. Won Friends Life T20 in 2011. And now he will serve under his former captain, Paul Nixon. He has been the head coach of the club since the end of 2017.

“I am happy to be back with Leicestershire,” said Taylor. “I have so many great memories here and can’t wait to add to them.

Leicestershire has some extremely talented players

“Leicestershire has some extremely talented players. And I can’t think of a better place to come and work and try something different. I want to help take the club forward in any way I can.”

Claude Henderson, Taylor’s teammate during the 2011 T20 win. He was appointed director of cricket last week on a permanent basis after playing the role on an interim basis this season.
