Kane Williamson’s double century gives New Zealand a 174-run lead

Kane Williamson got his fifth double century. He shared a 159-run partnership with Ish Sodhi that saw Pakistan out on the fourth day, giving them a 174-run lead before Tim Southee declared.

Williamson and Sodhi both allowed New Zealand to continue to build on –

Kane Williamson and Ish Sodhi batted for more than half a day which proved to be a disappointment for Pakistan. The duo added only 79 runs in the first session, but set the tone which allowed New Zealand to build on and take a healthy lead.

Both Sodhi and Williamson were largely comfortable on a pitch that offered slower pace, with rough patches still wide of the stumps. As Nauman Ali was trying to hit those patches to create some doubt. It did little to stop the pair, who were able to score runs comfortably.

They wasted a run against Sodhi –

Ali came close to taking a wicket when he hit Williamson on the pads for 116. He made his way past the on-field umpire. But a review showed that the ball pitched outside leg stump.

Pakistan had bad luck with the review, soon after which they wasted a run against Sodhi. Mohammad Wasim Jr aimed to shape the old ball and hit Sodhi with a full ball, but replays confirmed it was not worth a review as there was a huge inside edge.
