Legends League: Former India openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have been named captains of two new franchises in Legends League Cricket (LLC). Sehwag will lead Gujarat Lions and Gambhir will head India Capitals.
The upcoming edition of the LLC will feature four teams fighting 16 matches in six cities. It will begin on September 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It will be followed by games in Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack and Jodhpur.
“I am excited to be back on the cricket field again,” Sehwag said on his appointment. “I personally have always believed in playing fearless cricket and I will continue to promote the same brand of cricket here as well. We are extremely excited and eagerly waiting for the draft to pick our team.”
Gambhir said: “I have always believed that cricket is a team game and a captain is only as good as his team. While I will lead the India Capitals team, I will push for a spirited team that is passionate and passionate about going out. Be curious and win as a team.”
The LLC also announced that former India captain and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly would lead the India Maharajas in a curtain-raiser exhibition match against the World Giants team led by former England captain Eoin Morgan on 16 September.
The league has signed a total of 53 former players, including Muttiah Muralitharan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Jonty Rhodes, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shane Watson, Ross Taylor and Dale Steyn.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar will captain defending champions India Legends in the second edition of the Road Safety World Series (RSWS).
Teams from Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh, England and for the first time New Zealand are also participating in the tournament with an aim to create awareness on road safety. It will start in Kanpur from September 10. The other games to be played in Indore, Dehradun and Raipur. The final will played on October 1.
