They are preparing for every scenario, as none of the players present were even close to professional cricket, the last time Australia played a Test in Pakistan was in 1998.

The XI, including Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja, have all been named in the last Ashes Test in Hobart.

Opener Marcus Harris, who ended the series because of Usman Khawaja, has been given relief. Star pacer Josh Hazlewood, who lost the last four Ashes Tests against England after injury, is among the bowlers selected.

WA all-rounder Ashton Agar will tour as spin cover for Nathan Lyon, which also features Queensland legspinner Mitchell Swepson. Agar played the last of his four Tests in Bangladesh in 2017.

Explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has previously been used as a subcontinent specialist, has not been named.

The President George Bailey said :-

“This team covers for all scenarios, including situations as Australia were last in Pakistan,” said chairman of selectors George Bailey.

“This is a big first challenge for the group after several tours of the subcontinent and a successful home Ashes series on the near horizon of the one-day World Cup in India. It is also a very historic tour considering the last time an Australian team toured Pakistan.

The possibility of a team change remains with the Australian Cricketers’ Association opting out of the tour for security reasons.

ACA boss Todd Greenberg told Sen on Monday: “Obviously there is some concern about the tour, and it’s completely natural because the Australian cricket team hasn’t toured Pakistan for almost 25 years.”
