Mohammed Shami is unlikely to feature in the Test series against Bangladesh

Mohammed Shami is unlikely to play in the Test series against Bangladesh. The latest information from the Indian camp is that the veteran fast bowler has not fully recovered from the right shoulder strain that kept him out of the ongoing ODI series.

Shami was last seen with the Indian team in the T20 WC

Shami is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Reports from there are not encouraging for the veteran bowler. The NCA staff will prepare a roadmap for his recovery and rehabilitation. At present, there is no clear information about his return. For the Indian team struggling in Bangladesh, the absence of Shami (216 wickets in 60 Tests) could be a blow as his experience will be sorely missed.

Shami was last seen with the Indian team, in the T20 WC in Australia last month. He was initially part of the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series, but had to withdraw. Umran Malik was named as his replacement for the ODIs.

These three players are unavailable for the third and final ODI on December 10

For the Tests, there are apparently no plans to rush replacements. As more than 30 players are in Bangladesh, including part of the India A squad. The Indian team will be free to retain any player they want. Anyway, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur are part of the team along with spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. He will also be soon joined by left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar. He will come in place of the injured Ravindra Jadeja.

Same goes for the ODI team. Although three players – Kuldeep Sen, Deepak Chahar and Rohit Sharma – are unavailable for the third and final ODI on December 10. No replacements are being named. Siraj, Thakur and Umran are available for selection and sources. The selection committee have said that there is no immediate need for replacements for the series they have already lost.
