The decision to send Henry back to New Zealand was made in hopes that the 30-year-old might recover in time to play during the Kiwi Chappell-Hadley Trophy ODI series against Australia in September.

Henry’s departure has seen inexperienced pacer Ben Sears depart for the Caribbean as his replacement, with the 24-year-old making his international ODI debut during the three-match series starting this week.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead was disappointed to lose Henry:-

While New Zealand coach Gary Stead was disappointed with Henry losing, he is upbeat at the prospect of Sears earning his country’s first ODI cap.

“It’s a shame for Matt to return home at this point of the tour,” Stead said. “Although the injury is not more serious – we felt there was a significant risk that it would get worse through the game.

“With the upcoming ODI series starting Wednesday and consisting of three matches over five days, we saw it prudent to bring in a fully fit replacement.
