Pakistan and New Zealand on Sunday strengthened their chances of qualifying directly for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 but West Indies will have to rely on other results to survive next year’s qualifiers.
Babar Azam’s side posted a narrow nine-run win over the heroic Netherlands in Rotterdam and the win resulted in a tie with second-placed Bangladesh.

Only net run rate separates Pakistan from Bangladesh, with England leading all teams with 125 points from 18 matches played.
New Zealand’s thrilling five-wicket win over West Indies also earned them a crucial 10 points in the Cricket World Cup Super League as they maintained fourth place in the standings with a total of 110 points.
The result of the series decider in Barbados however did not bode well for West Indies, who have now completed all their 24 Super League matches and are seventh on the current standings.
Only the top eight teams will qualify directly for next year’s 50-over World Cup in India, and West Indies will need several other results to remain in the top eight at the end of the qualification period.
Qualifying directly as the 2023 World Cup hosts, India have a chance to jump up to fifth-placed Afghanistan. When they take on Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI of their series in Harare on Monday.
If West Indies drop out of the top eight, they will be forced to qualify for next year’s Zimbabwe.
