Rehan to become England’s youngest Test player

Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed will become England’s youngest Test cricketer when the third and final match against Pakistan begins in Karachi on Saturday. Captain Ben Stokes said, ahmed will be 18 years and 126 days old when the match starts. Beating Brian Close, who was 18 years and 149 days old when he debuted for England against New Zealand in Manchester in 1949.

Ben Stokes said at a press conference in Karachi –

“I think this is a good opportunity for us to not only watch him, but for him to experience what it’s like to play international cricket.”

“It’s an exciting time especially for Rehan. He was very excited when we nodded to him that he was going to play last night.”

Rehan Ahmed will replace spinner Will Jacks while wicketkeeper Ben Foakes will replace James Anderson, who is being rested. Ahmed’s inclusion highlights England’s bold approach to Test cricket. It has been adopted since Stokes became captain and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum became head coach in May.

Stokes said Rehan has a lot of skill with both bat and ball

Stokes said Ahmed was impressive in the last English season. Scoring a century and taking five wickets in his final first-class match. He also impressed McCullum and Stokes in the pre-tour match in Abu Dhabi last month.
