The discussion on the venue of the Asia Cup 2023 has been going on for a long time between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). And the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The tournament is hosted by Pakistan and the BCCI has refused to allow the Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan. After this, there has been a demand to conduct the tournament at a neutral venue. On the other hand, a hybrid model was introduced by Pakistan. In which India would have to play its matches at neutral venues and all other matches would be held in Pakistan. But recently a new controversy came up regarding this. There were reports that this hybrid model was introduced by Pakistan in the ICC. In which the Pakistani team would play its ODI World Cup 2023 matches in Pakistan instead of India.

But now a clear answer has been issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). It has been completely denied by the PCB that it introduced this hybrid model in the ICC. The PCB on Friday clarified that its chairman Najam Sethi never put forward the view at the ICC Board meeting. That their men’s team was keen to play their World Cup matches in Bangladesh instead of India. However, it was reported by PTI on March 29 itself that the ICC had denied. That any such discussion had ever taken place on its platform.

The ICC had said that, Bangladesh is not even a contender to host any World Cup match. As the BCCI (Indian Cricket Board) had assured that there would be no visa issues for the Pakistan team. The PCB clarified that the concept of ‘hybrid model’ of the tournament was only relevant to the Asia Cup as the Indian team would not be traveling to Pakistan. On the other hand, Najam Sethi, who is holding the post of PCB Chairman. While referring to the conversation with the media in Rawalpindi / Islamabad on Thursday, said that he had informed the media about the ‘hybrid model’ presented for the Asia Cup. So that The impasse that occurred after Team India’s decision not to come to Pakistan could be ended.

According to a new statement issued by the PCB, the proposal to play India’s matches at a neutral venue and the rest in Pakistan is under discussion at the ACC. In the same release, Najam Sethi was quoted as saying that a section of the media had misrepresented his point of view. At no stage during Thursday’s press conference did Najam Sethi comment on the ICC or the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Which is scheduled to be held in India in October. The matter has not been discussed in any ICC forum so far.
In its release, the PCB questioned a local English news item. And wrote that, “The PCB is disappointed that a leading English language newspaper has misrepresented, misinterpreted. And given the impression that the PCB The ‘hybrid model’ of cricket introduced. Discussed at the ICC is factually incorrect. After getting into the nitty gritty. The PCB consoled everyone by mentioning in a press release that the concept of a ‘hybrid model’ could be discussed later. It is however known to everyone in the ICC that any such recommendation would be rejected. At the same time, it would also be wrong to say that ‘hybrid model’ will not be advocated. The issue will be taken up with the ICC at the appropriate time.
