New Delhi. IPL (Indian Premier League) is the biggest cricket league in the world. The 16th season of T20 league is starting from today. The first season was played in 2008. In the auction held recently, England all-rounder Sam Karen was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 18.5 crore. With this, Karen became the most expensive player in IPL history. A team can spend Rs 95 crore on the salary of the players. In this way, if we talk about 10 teams, then the players can get a maximum of 950 crores as salary. But it is far behind in terms of salary from the top-3 leagues of the world.

According to Deloitte, in the American top-3 leagues NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball, players get about 48 percent of the total revenue as salary. At the same time, in the English Premier League, in 2020-21, players were given 71 percent of the amount as salary. But in IPL it is only 18 per cent. That is, even though the players are getting huge amount here, but they do not stand anywhere in front of other leagues of the world.

Foreign Boards Also Get Money

Foreign boards also earn from IPL. As per the rule, 10 percent of the salary of every player is received by their board. For this reason, most of the boards do not hold international series during IPL. The players of Australia, England and West Indies earn the most. IPL teams are also entering the leagues around the world. This includes the Caribbean Premier League, South T20 League, Major League Cricket and UAE T20 International League.
