South Africa has announced its squad for the T20 World Cup to be on home soil next month. However, regular captain Dane van Niekerk, who played her last international match last year, has not been included. Nikark did not meet the fitness level, that is why he has not been selected. In his absence, Sune Luus will lead the team in the tournament starting next month.

Sune Loos has previously taken over the captaincy in Nickerk’s absence, while leading the team in the tri-series against India and the West Indies at home. Under his leadership, South Africa have made it to the finals and will play the final against India in East London on February 2.

On Tuesday, Women’s Selection Coordinator Clinton du Preez said,

The Dane given ample opportunity to meet the minimum criteria for the fitness benchmark. She recently took another fitness test and didn’t meet the minimum criteria and she missed out. The Dane did not meet the minimum requirement for the 2 km time trial. Management helped him try to get there but he didn’t meet the minimum requirement. The Dane’s skill set as a cricketer will always be remembered on the cricket field. We have reminded them of this. We also appreciate the effort put into meeting the fitness level.
