Virat Kohli has returned to his old form through the Asia Cup 2022. He finished second in the list of highest run-scorers of the tournament with 276 runs. During this, he also ended the drought of his century. Kohli scored his first century of T20’s career while playing an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan. This century of Kohli came as an opener, after which there was talk in the corridors of cricket whether Kohli should play a bigger opener in the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia? Cricket experts have their own opinion on this question.
In answer of this question Parthiv Patel said-
The answer to this question has now been given by Parthiv Patel, the former Indian wicket-keeper. Parthiv believes that Kohli should open the innings with Rohit Sharma. He has also given an explanation of his answer.
On the question of opening the innings with Kohli on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said, “It is clear, if I am saying that Virat Kohli should open in the Asia Cup then he should open the innings in the T20 World Cup also. The team will find the right balance.”
Parthiv Patel further said-
“They (Kohli and Rohit Sharma) are two different types of players. One is very aggressive who can hit boundaries from the start and the other is Kohli who finds gaps and hits fours and sixes. If Rohit and Kohli play till the first six So I have no doubt that most of the times even in Australian conditions, they will take India to almost fifty. That’s a good score without losing wickets. Kohli is probably India’s best batsman for those conditions. So why not. Your two best batsmen are playing the first six overs. If you have wickets in hand, it has always been a recipe for success for any T20 team.”
