T20 World Cup 2022: These are the 5 biggest problems for India and Rohit Sharma

T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma-led Team India may have won the T20I series against Australia and South Africa at home, however, there are some big concerns as the team prepares to take part in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

If the team wants to win the marquee event, then all the three departments of the game need to work together, which has not happened for Rohit Sharma and belatedly. Death bowling has emerged as one of the biggest concerns for the team, and with Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the tournament, no one knows how the side can fix the problem that is quickly becoming their heel.

There is no equal substitute for Hardik Pandya in the team, and if the premier all-rounder gets injured during the tournament, the balance of the team will be disturbed and the management will get a serious headache.

T20 World Cup 2022: Jasprit Bumrah’s place :-

Team India suffered a major setback on Monday after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to injury. No replacement has been named so far. Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are on standby but they haven’t played the shortest format for so long this year.

Chahar may have played the T20I series against South Africa and has shown great form, but is three games enough? Shami, on the other hand, has not played a single T20 International for India this year. He was in the squad for the series against Australia and South Africa, but was eventually dropped after testing positive for COVID-19. Mohammad Siraj is also someone who can be seen, but he has a knack for scoring runs on the death.

T20 World Cup 2022: These are the 5 biggest problems for India and Rohit Sharma.

Very poor performance in death overs :-

In the Asia Cup, series against Australia and South Africa, Indian bowlers conceded runs at death. No bowler has been able to control the game by standing up. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh conceding runs at death and Bumrah sidelined, no one knows how the side can find a solution to this problem.

The side has consistently failed to deliver yorkers and Harshal Patel’s slow delivery is no secret anymore, and the need of the hour is for him to make some changes in his bowling arsenal.

There is no replacement like Hardik Pandya :-

Hardik Pandya has emerged as the biggest MVP for Team India in the shortest format of the game. This year, he has shown time and again that he can win matches for India with both bat and ball. However, one needs to think that what if Hardik gets injured?

The all-rounder bowls consistently in all games, if he gets injured, the side’s balance will be badly disrupted. They also can’t be given the “cotton-wool” treatment once the tournament begins, so managing their workload is a tricky chore. There is no equal substitute for him in the team.

Poor performance of Rishabh Pant :-

Rishabh Pant’s talent is well known. But he has not been able to prove his credentials in the shortest format of the game. Pant played the T20I series against South Africa but he only managed to go with the bat in the final T20I, where he scored 27 off 14 balls while he came out to bat.

However, it is not possible to play as an opener with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma playing that role. Playing in the middle order, Pant has not been able to do much this year so his form is one of the biggest concerns. As of now, it can be safely assumed that Dinesh Karthik continues to hold the lead over Pant in the shortest format.

T20 World Cup 2022: Lack of wickets for Yuzvendra Chahal :-

Leg-spinners have traditionally done well, so Yuzvendra Chahal will have to rely on Australia. With huge boundaries in the game, Chahal can afford to blow the ball up and give it some air. However, his late form could frustrate Rohit and the management.

The spinner has not been able to control the run-flow and with this, wickets are not coming for him continuously. Chahal conceded runs in the Asia Cup and series against Australia.

He did not play a single match against South Africa. It’s because Ravichandran Ashwin was preferred over him because of the many left-handers in the Proteas ranks. Chahal will have to find his mojo before the T20 World Cup.
