T20 World Cup Played Against Dhoni, Became Selector One Day After Retirement, Responsibility for World Cup team Selection

New Delhi. There have been many such players in world cricket who after playing cricket for their country worked on a big position in the board. A senior player had announced his retirement after becoming the ICC T20 World Cup champion in Australia last year. Luke Wright played against Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The amazing thing is that only one day after his retirement, the England Cricket Board decided to make him a national selector.

England Created History by Winning the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia

England, the defending champions who won the ODI World Cup in the year 2019, created history by winning the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia. Now the English team is eyeing this year’s ODI World Cup to be held in India. For the second time in a row, the team is dreaming of winning this trophy. For this, the cricket board made senior player Luke Wright the national selector along with his retirement.

The 37-year-old all-rounder Luke Wright given this responsibility by the England Cricket Board in place of former selector Ed Smith. Smith removed from his post by the ECB several months ago. After remaining vacant for several months, the board decided to reinstate Luke on this post. On 21 November 2022, he had announced to say goodbye to international cricket. A day later, on 22 November, the ECB announced his appointment as the national selector.

He made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe only in the year 2007

Luke Wright, who made his ODI debut against India in September 2007, played his last ODI in 2014 against the West Indies. He made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in the year 2007 itself. Wright played 50 ODIs and 51 T20 matches for England. Scored 707 runs in ODIs and took 15 wickets. He has 759 runs and 18 wickets in 51 T20 matches.
