In 2011, former New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor also became a part of the IPL. Then he shared the dressing room with Indian legends like Rahul Dravid while playing for Rajasthan Royals. Now in his autobiography ‘Ross Taylor: Black and White’, he has shared an interesting anecdote about Dravid and his fans in India.

Ross Taylor has mentioned an incident in his autobiography ‘Black and White’ when he went to Ranthambore National Park with Dravid to see tigers. During this, a large number of ordinary tourists were also present there, who were more interested in seeing Dravid than tigers.

More people were interested in Rahul Dravid than tiger

Taylor wrote in his book, ‘I asked Dravid how many times have you seen a tiger? To this he said, ‘I have never seen a tiger. I have been on Tiger Safari 21 times. But even once the tiger could not be seen. I thought, ‘What? Not a single tiger in spite of 21 safaris.’ Seriously saying if I had known, I would not have gone. I’d say, ‘No, thanks, I’ll watch Discovery Channel. That’s when our driver got a radio call from a colleague that he had found the location of a famous, tagged tiger T-17. Dravid was thrilled to hear this, 21 safari was about to get a chance to see a tiger for the 22nd time without seeing the tiger.

Taylor further wrote, ‘We were standing in the woods near other vehicles. The upper part of an SUV slightly larger than the Land Rover was opened. The tiger was sitting on a rock, about 100 meters away from us. We were excited to see a tiger in the jungle, but people in other vehicles immediately turned their cameras towards Rahul Dravid. They were as excited to see him (Rahul Dravid) as we were to see the tiger. There are probably around 4 thousand tigers in the world, but there is only one Rahul Dravid.
