Veteran raised questions on Indian opener Shafali Verma’s innings played in the semi-finals

In the first semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022, India defeated Thailand to reach the final. In this match, Indian opener Shafali Verma scored the most runs for the team. Despite this, veteran Anjum Chopra did not seem impressed with his batting.

The young swashbuckling batsman scored 42 runs in 28 balls and contributed significantly in reaching the score of 148/6 for the Indian team. In her innings, Shafali also hit five fours and a six. India’s approach in big matches lacked aggression – Anjum Chopra

Thailand did lose in the final but their bowlers did not give the Indian batsmen a chance to play freely in the beginning. According to the former Indian captain, the team should start by dominating the big matches. Chopra said,

Thailand initially started building pressure with the ball and there was a lack of communication between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Shafali had survived the run out and looked furious. I felt he lacks the aggressive attitude that you need in a big game.

Let us tell you that in response to India’s score, Thailand’s team could score only 74 runs and lost the match by the same margin. In the final, India will face Sri Lanka, who defeated Pakistan in the second semi-final. The final of the Asia Cup will be played on October 15.
