Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has revealed that he played the T20 World Cup final with a Grade Two-tier in his side. After suffering an injury during training a day before the game.
Wade was the protagonist of Australia’s semi-final victory over Pakistan. But made it through to the final against New Zealand under serious doubt. After damaging his side in his final net session.
The team doctor and physiotherapist, as well as captain Aaron Finch, knew the scan results and the severity of the injury, something Wade did not want to know.

Wade said on Thursday– The day before the game, I put my side on the second last ball before the end of the session.
“I really didn’t want to go in for a scan. But they sent me and then to the credit of the physio and the doctor. They hid the information from me and said let’s see tomorrow and we’ll leave, Wade.
Finch said there were some apprehensions about Wade’s fitness but it did not surprise him.
Finch said, ‘There was always a little bit of fear. “I knew the result being grade two. I thought a grade two tear in his side was going to be tough. But if anyone’s going to play it would be him. You gotta amputate his leg for that, no there lean out.

“I thought he put up brilliantly. Towards the back end I saw him in a little pain with a few dives and throws, yeah, he was never missing.”
Wade turned 34 in December. He said after his heroics in the semi-finals that he thought he could play his last international for Australia. But he confirmed on Thursday that he would love to play Australia’s title defense at home next year to end his international career.
“Hopefully I get a few more games now,” Wade said. “I think for the last few years I’ve been watching it anyway, to be honest. I never thought I’d get a chance to play again.
