Mumbai: Former Team India batsman Wasim Jaffer feels that the Indian team should start the innings in T20 cricket from Rishabh Pant. He has given this suggestion just before the three-match T20 series between India and England starting on Thursday.

Wasim Jaffer said, Rishabh Pant should be considered for opening the innings

Wasim Jaffer tweeted and said, Indian think tank should consider getting Rishabh Pant to open the innings in international T20 matches. I think that is the place where he will come out more and more as a batsman.

Pant is making a splash in Test cricket

Rishabh Pant is doing extremely well in Test cricket. In 31 Test matches played for India so far, he has scored 2,123 runs at an average of 43.32. In which 5 centuries and 10 half-centuries are included. His highest score is 159 not out. Pant has scored centuries in countries like Australia, South Africa, England. After a stellar performance in the Edgbaston Test against England, he has reached the fifth position among batsmen in the ICC Test Rankings. Which is the best ranking of his Test career.

Pant has scored 532 runs at an average of 66.50 in 5 Test matches played so far this year. In which 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries are included. His best score this year has been 146 runs. He played this innings in the Edgbaston Test against England.

Poor performance in T20

On the other hand, in 48 T20 matches played so far, he has been able to score 741 runs for India at an average of just 23.15. During this, he has made only three half-centuries to his name and his best score is 65 not out. His strike rate in T20Is is 123.91 which is not as expected for a player like him.

In the year 2022, Pant has played 7 T20 matches for India in which he has been able to score only 118 runs at an average of 23.60. Including a half-century innings. In IPL 2022 too, Pant, captaining Delhi Capitals, scored 340 runs in 14 matches at an average of 30.91 and strike of 151.79. He could not score a single half-century in IPL this year. His highest score was 44 runs.
