WBBL: Hobart Hurricanes win despite small score, Sydney Thunder’s poor batting performance

In the second match of Women’s BBL 2022, Hobart Hurricanes started the season with a 19-run victory over Sydney Thunder (ST-W vs HB-W). Playing first, Hurricanes scored 125/5 in the allotted 20 overs, in response, Thunder’s team could only score 106/9 despite playing full overs. Heather Graham (3/15) of Hobart Hurricanes was adjudged player of the match for her superb bowling.

Sydney Thunder captain Rachel Haynes won the toss and elected to field first and invited Hobart Hurricanes to bat. Captain Alice Villani and Lizelle Lee opened the innings for the Hurricanes. Villani could not do much and was dismissed for 3 runs in 11 balls at the score of 19. Lizelle seemed to be in good form but could not convert her innings into a big total. He scored 25 runs in 27 balls with the help of one four and two sixes.

After two blows, the pair of Rachael Trenaman and Mignon du Pre took forward the innings and shared a 49-run partnership. Du Pree was also dismissed for 33 runs in 27 balls at the score of 111 in the 18th over. Heather Graham remained unbeaten on 17 runs. In this way the innings of Hobart Hurricanes reached the score of 125 for the loss of 5 wickets. Samantha Bates and Chloe Tryon took two wickets each for Sydney Thunder.

Molly Strano and Heather Graham took three wickets each for the Hobart Hurricanes.
