Yash Dhull takes charge of Delhi against Tamil Nadu after scoring 113 runs in the first class

Yash Dhull captain of the 2022 World Cup-winning Indian Under-19 team, has scored a century on his first-class debut against the mighty Tamil Nadu at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on the first day of the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy.

Tamil Nadu captain Vijay Shankar managed to win the toss :-

After Tamil Nadu captain Vijay Shankar won the toss and elected to field in the Elite Group H match, Dhul quickly lost opening partner Dhruv Shourie (1) and No. 3 Himmat Singh (duck off the first ball). Tamil Nadu fast bowler Sandeep Warrier was successful in sending both the batsmen back. But Dhull shared a 60-run partnership with Nitish Rana (25) for the third wicket .

Then a 119-run partnership with Jonty Sidhu for the fourth wicket. Dhull completed his century in 133 balls when he hit B Aparajith for two, to cut behind the point.

Dhull didn’t last very long after that . However, as he was caught in front of a full delivery of 113 off 150 balls by veteran right-arm medium pacer M Mohammed. He had hit 18 boundaries in his innings.

Dhull – A revelation after scoring 229 runs in four innings :-

Dhull had made a revelation in the Under-19 World Cup, scoring 229 runs in just four innings at an average of 76.33. Particularly impressive was the way he returned after a hiatus, when he along with several of his teammates tested positive for Covid-19.

Batting in the middle order in the tournament, he scored 82 off 100 balls in India’s opening match against South Africa, but then missed two games against Ireland and Uganda. On his return, he was unbeaten on 20 off 26 balls. India defeated Bangladesh by 110 runs in the Super League semi-final against Australia in the Super League quarter-final.

Though he scored just 17 runs in the final, he played a part in putting India in a position of strength along with Sheikh Rashid (50) as they chased down 190 for victory.

U-19 coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar praised him after winning the title :-

Regarding his captaincy, U-19 coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar praised him after winning the title, saying, “(Dhull) led him very well. He has a good head on his shoulders, he played well, read the situation and what players would like.”
