Deadliest duo captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers arrives in Chennai
India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, the Deadliest duo arrives in Chennai on Thursday to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise but will have to undergo a 7-day separation before joining the team.
The RCB team is taking part in the training camp from Tuesday for the upcoming season starting on April 9.
Sharing a picture of Kohli wearing a mask, RCB tweeted that captain Virat Kohli has reached Chennai. RCB will face defending champions Mumbai Indians here on April 9 in the first match of the tournament.
Kohli, who has been associated with RCB since the inception of IPL in 2008, walked out of a biologically safe environment on Monday after winning India’s one-day international series in Pune against England.
Kohli was part of a biologically safe environment in various cities since the end of January before the series against England. He was part of the Indian team of four Tests, five T20 Internationals, and three ODIs.
In five T20 matches, Virat Kohli scored the highest 231 runs which included 3 half-centuries.
In IPL history, captain Virat Kohli has scored 5878 runs at an average of 38. This season, he will try to reverse the fortunes of Royal Challengers Bangalore not only with the bat but also with the captaincy.
Another important member of RCB, Mr. 360 batsman AB de Villiers, also joined the biologically safe environment of RCB on Thursday.
Meanwhile, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who arrived in Chennai from Pune on Monday afternoon, will be available for training from Tuesday, as both these players have arrived here directly from the bio bubble.
De Villiers has been an important member of the team since joining RCB for the first time in the year 2011. Chief coach Simon Katich has also come out of seclusion with fast bowler Navdeep Saini. Meanwhile, the RCB team participated in another practice session.
Glenn Maxwell, who was bought for 14.25 crores in the IPL auction by RCB, has also joined the team. RCB will play their first three matches here in Chennai including the IPL season-opening match against Mumbai Indians on April 9.
To gain an edge in its bowling, Bangalore spent Rs 15 crore in the IPL auction and bought Kyle Jamieson with a base price of Rs 75 lakh. In the IPL auction 2021, Bangalore had spent Rs 29 crore for two players.
