WBBL 2023: Jonathan Batty will stay on as head coach of Melbourne Stars for two more years. Batty took over as coach during the eighth season of the tournament last year.

Jonathan Batty has extended his role as the head coach of the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for a further two years.

“I am thrilled to sign on as head coach of the Melbourne Stars for the next two seasons of the WBBL.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Stars for WBBL 08, and can’t wait to rejoin and engage with the team. The progress we made last season,” Batty said.

“There is an enormous amount of talent and potential in the young squad, which was evident for much of the last campaign.

Batty recently guided Delhi Capitals to the final of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Meg Lanning, who missed WBBL08 due to personal reasons, will return to star alongside Batty in Delhi Capitals.

Ellyse Capsey and Jemimah Rodrigues were also part of the Capitals team after representing the Stars during season eight.

“I was fortunate enough to work with Meg Lanning over the past few weeks in the WPL, and it will be great to see her back in the Stars jersey,” Batty said.

Batty, 49, has been a successful coach, winning back-to-back titles as The Oval Invincible in The Hundred-Women edition.

Melbourne Stars general manager Blair Crouch welcomed Batty’s decision to stay on, saying that consistency is one of the key aspects for the Stars’ success in the tournament.

Crouch said, “This group has seen a lot of change over the years, so it’s fantastic to have the bulk of the squad that played for WBBL09 back and continues their journey with Jonathan.”
