Babar Azam Asia Cup 2023: Asia Cup 2023 has started. The first match of the tournament was played between Nepal and Pakistan at Multan Cricket Stadium. Pakistan started the tournament on a great note. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first.

Add 214 runs for the fifth wicket :-

After Pakistan’s first two wickets fell quickly, captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan brought the team back on track with an 86-run partnership for the third wicket. In such a situation, after Rizwan’s run-out, Babar along with Iftikhar played a record-breaking innings.

Did this feat after Virat Kohli :-

Both the batsmen also made the record of the highest partnership of 214 runs for the fifth wicket in the Asia Cup. Babar Azam played an inning of 151 runs in the first match. He has become the second batsman after Virat Kohli to cross the 150-run mark in Asia Cup.

Most runs scored in Asia Cup :-

Babar has also become the batsman who has scored the most runs on home soil in the Asia Cup. Babar has also left Sri Lanka’s Arjuna Ranatunga behind in this case, he scored an unbeaten 131 against India in 1997. Apart from today’s innings of Babar Azam, all the batsmen have scored big scores against India.

  • Babar Azam 2023 Asia Cup 151 against Nepal
  • Arjuna Ranatunga of Sri Lanka scored unbeaten 131 runs against India in 1997
  • Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya scored 130 against India in the 2004 Asia Cup.
  • Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik played an unbeaten inning of 125 runs against India in 2008.
  • Pakistan’s Younis Khan played an inning of 123 runs against India in 2008 itself.
  • Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh scored 117 runs against India in 2014
