Ramesh Powar again became the head coach of the Indian women cricket team, there was a dispute with Mithali Raj in the first term
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has re-appointed former Indian off-spinner Ramesh Powar as the head coach of the Indian senior women’s cricket team. Powar had previously been the coach of the Indian women’s team from July – November 2018. The BCCI gave this information on Thursday.
The BCCI had advertised for the post and received 35 applications for the same. The applicants were interviewed by a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal, and Rudra Pratap Singh and they unanimously agreed on the name of Power.
Powar, who was selected for the first time in Team India for the tour of Pakistan in 2004, has played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India. After his playing career, he joined cricket coaching and became an ECB Level 2 Certified Coach. He also joined BCCI = NCA Level 2 Coaching Course.
Powar became the coach of the women’s team for the second time. he was earlier the coach of the women’s team from July – November 2018. Under him, coach, India reached the semi-finals of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup 2018 and won 14 T20 matches in a row.
He recently coached the Mumbai senior team which won the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Powar has also served as a bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy.
The first term was full of controversies
At one time, the dispute between Indian batter Mithali Raj and head coach Ramesh Powar was getting extremely bad and Powar said in his official report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Mithali had threatened that if she is not allowed to open, she will withdraw from the middle of the World Cup and retire.
Mithali Raj had alleged that Powar wanted to ruin her while coach Ramesh Powar questioned her attitude. Powar was appointed in July 2018 when Tushar Arothe left the post due to differences with senior players.
