India tour of England – 2 Indian Cricketers Test Positive

Two Indian cricketers, who are in the UK, have tested positive for the COVID-19. News agency ANI reported on Thursday. However, the report stated that both are doing fine now and one player has even returned negative tests since, while the other will be tested on July 18 after his 10-day quarantine period will be over. This came after the COVID-19 hit the England side during their series against Pakistan earlier this month. 

According to a report by ANI, quoting BCCI sources, both the players were asymptomatic. They have minor signs of cough and cold when they were tested for COVID-19.

The source said:

“Luckily, there is nothing to worry about as one of the players has already returned negative since testing positive. The other player will be tested on Sunday and is currently in isolation. He is asymptomatic as well and we are confident. That he can join the camp soon after negative reports,”

The England team also had a COVID-19 breakout within its camp recently. Ahead of the limited-overs series against Pakistan. Seven members of the team including three players and four support staff tested positive for COVID-19. This led to ECB selecting a whole new squad for the ODI series which they eventually clean-swept 3-0 under the captaincy of Ben Stokes.

The ANI report further added that the player initially experienced a sore throat after which he tested positive for COVID-19.

Teammates and support staff who came in contact with the positive players. They have been asked to stay in isolation for the next three days.

Indian squad has been asked to reassemble in Durham by end of the day today. They will all be tested again on Thursday, having last undergone ECB-administered tests at the weekend.
