Melbourne: The Australia cricket team is ready to tour Pakistan. The team has to play three Tests, one T20 and three ODIs in Pakistan from March 4 to April 5. For this, the Kangaroo team will reach Pakistan this month. Australia last toured Pakistan 24 years ago in 1998. Now before this tour, there seems to be trouble for Australia.

Former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram is the assistant coach of the Australia team. Sriram plays the role of a spin bowling consultant. According to the information, he has decided to go back to India for the duration of the Pakistan and Australia series. It is still not clear why Sriram has decided to pull out of the tour.

A Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson meanwhile told Cricbuzz that they are in talks with former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori to take over the position tentatively. But there only a few days left for the Australia team to leave for Pakistan. In such a situation, it is difficult for Vettori to join the team. With spin bowlers playing an important role in the Indian subcontinent, without a spin bowling consultant, there could be trouble for the Australian team.

Sriram, who played ODIs for India in the early 2000s, has been a part of the Australian coaching setup since 2016. Sriram’s contribution to the team’s success came to the fore during the 2017 India tour, when Australia won the first Test in Pune. Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe took 12 wickets for 70 runs in the match. He credited Shri Ram as a great helper in his success.
