World Cup 2023 Australia: Australian batsman Travis Head will not be able to play in the first phase of the ODI World Cup due to a fracture in his left hand, while his participation in the rest of the tournament is doubtful. His injury has opened the way for in-form Marnus Labuschagne.
Travis Head was hit on the left glove by fast bowler Gerald Kotze during the fourth ODI against South Africa. Head coach Andrew McDonald said that Head will not be able to play in the three-match ODI series against India starting on Friday.

McDonald said, ‘He does not need an operation but the Australian selectors will have to consider the risk of including him in the World Cup squad. The good thing is that the head does not need surgery. He will be out for some time and will not be able to play in the first leg. We have to decide on the final 15 but I can’t give a time frame.
Labuschagne’s path is open due to head injury. He is not in Australia’s initial squad but has caught the eye with his impressive performance against South Africa. Changes in the ODI World Cup team can be made till September 28. After that, ICC’s permission will have to be taken for any change.
