ICC ODI World Cup 2023: England’s David Willey announces retirement amid World Cup 2023. Willey said, ‘The time has come’. The England fast bowler has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket.
David Willey announced his retirement on Wednesday (November 1) through a shy post on social media, saying that he will never play international cricket again after the ODI World Cup being played in India.
Willey has played 3 out of 6 matches in England’s World Cup and his retirement announcement came three days ago on Sunday (28 October) after England’s crushing defeat at the hands of India a few days ago.

David Willey Announces Retirement From International Cricket:-
“I never wanted this day to come, since childhood I always had only one dream – to play cricket for England,” Willey said in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).
“Therefore, after much consideration, it is with great regret that I have to say that at the end of this World Cup, the time has come for me to retire from all formats of international cricket.”

David expressed his pride in playing cricket for England, saying, “I wear the (England) shirt with great pride and have given everything for the badge on my chest. I have been very lucky to be a part of such an incredible white ball team with some of the best players in the world.”
Willey added, “We have made some special memories and great friends on this journey and also gone through some very difficult times.”
David Willey was part of the turnaround in the England team in white-ball cricket. And was the leading wicket-taker for England in the 2016 T20 World Cup played in India.
Willey took 10 wickets in 6 matches, in the final of that World Cup, which England lost against West Indies.
Willey had troubled India by taking 3 wickets in his last match.
Pacer David is known for his ability to swing the ball against right-handed batsmen. Willey had troubled India in his last match by taking 3 wickets including important wickets of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav.
The announcement of Willey’s retirement has come at a time. Defending champion England’s performance in this World Cup has been very gloomy. And it has faced defeat in 5 of its first 6 matches.

33-year-old David Willey, who was included in England’s ODI World Cup team. Made his debut for England in the ODI match against Ireland in 2015. Willey has taken 94 wickets in 70 ODIs and 51 wickets in 43 T20s for England.
