Shubhman Gill on Wankhede pitch change conspiracy: The Indian cricket team is in a bubble of its own. They come on the cricket field, score runs with the bat, take wickets with the new and old ball, dominate the opponent in almost every field and forget about it the next day. The biggest proof of this is the words of Indian opener Shubman Gill on the pitch controversy of the World Cup semi-final match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Shubhman Gill said this on the pitch controversy:-

“Mujhe toh abhi pata laga pitch ke upar koi controversy hui thhi. Aapne hi bataya abhi. Kya controversy hui thi? (I just got to know from you that there was some controversy over the pitch. What was the controversy?”) asked Gill as collective laughter roamed around the room.

ICC had to issue an official statement :-

The question was absolutely legitimate. There was a lot of talk around that India was trying to gain an unfair advantage by making last minute pitch changes for the semi-finals and deliberately preparing a “slow pitch” to help their spinners. Seeing the matter becoming bigger, ICC had to issue an official statement to clarify on this matter.

“Changes to the planned pitch rotation at the end of such a long event are common and have happened many times before. This change was made on the recommendation of the venue curator along with our host. The ICC independent pitch consultant was made aware of the change. And there is no reason to believe that the pitch will not play well”.

India entered the final by defeating New Zealand :-

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar gave a strong statement to refute the reports. However, as Gill said, there was no impact on the way India played, he was not even aware of any such thing.

India registered a resounding win against New Zealand by 70 runs and entered the final.
