ICC T20 World Cup 2022: 5 new rules that the ICC will introduce in the World Cup

Mankading will be declared run out

Therefore, bowlers can run out a non-striker if they try to leave the crease during the bowler’s run-up or before the bowler bowls the ball. ICC has shifted Mankading from the ‘Unfair play section’ to the ‘Run-out’ section.

New batsman to take strike after catch out

Earlier, when a batsman got out, he got a chance to change the strike with his partner. The batsman may change his strike before the fielder has caught the ball. However, the ICC has changed this rule.

From the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 onwards, batsmen cannot change their strike while being caught out. The new batsman coming to the crease will have to take the strike. It doesn’t matter if the batsmen change their strike before the catch as the new batsmen will always have to take the strike.

Fielding penalty for slow overrate

This rule has been followed in some games so far this year. Teams failing to comply with the over rate will receive a fielding penalty. If a team is found guilty of a slow over rate, another additional fielder will be placed inside the circle for the death overs.

For example, if a team fails to start the final over (20th over) on time, an additional fielder must be placed inside the 30-yard-circle in the final over. Suppose, a team has completed only 18 overs up to the mandatory 90-minute slot, then an additional fielder must be placed inside the 30-yard circle for the next 2 overs.

Playing the delivery of the pitch

This is another rule that the ICC will introduce in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. If a batsman tries to play the ball outside the playing area (pitch), his body or some part of the bat must be inside the playing area. If the batsman leaves the playing area to make a shot, the ball is called a dead ball. In addition, such balls will also be called no-balls and the team batting will get a free hit.

Penalties for Improper Activities by Fielders

This is another rule that only applies to the fielding side. If a bowler is seen to be making a deliberate or inappropriate act to distract the batsmen while taking a run-up, the umpire may call the ball dead and may also allocate 5 penalty runs to the batting team.
