Ashes 2023: Nasser Hussain expressed displeasure over Pat Cummins’s defensive approach. Hussain said – ‘This is quite surprising’. Former England captain Nasser Hussain has strongly criticized the defensive approach of the Australian team in the Edgbaston Test.

England will be able to apply ‘Baseball’ against them:-

According to Hussain, Australia had accepted in the first over itself that England would be able to ‘baseball’ against them.

After winning the toss in the Test match, the England team came out to bat first and batted in their baseball style. The team scored 393 runs at the loss of 8 wickets and then declared the innings.

Nasser Hussain raised questions on the captaincy of Cummins:-

According to former England cricketer Nasser Hussain, Australia already turned a blind eye to the match. According to him, the approach of team captain Pat Cummins was quite defensive.

Nasir Hussain said, ‘Seeing a deep point at the beginning of the first over, it seemed that Australia had accepted what kind of strategy England was going to adopt.

For this, he set the field accordingly. Australia was taking a decision before anything happened which is surprising.

He further said, ‘Whether it is respect towards England’s play or Australia’s strategy to keep the opposition team under pressure. Only Australians know this. He was looking to keep the game under control and wait for England to make mistakes.

Shane Warne didn’t like it either – Nasser Hussain

Nasir Hussain further added that Australian spinner Shane Warne hated such tactics.

He said that “whenever a new batsman came in, he kept the field open, which meant that players like Joe Root and Harry Brook took advantage of the ground on both sides for singles.

The great Shane Warne hated that sort of thing. As a bowler, he wanted to bowl six balls to the new man.

On the first day of the first Test of Ashes 2023, England cricket team declared its first innings against the Australian cricket team at a score of 393/8.
