The first Test match of the 4-match series between the two teams will be played in Nagpur from 9 February. R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, ‘Shreyas Iyer has been doing well in Test cricket with Rishabh Pant in the last few years. This is a low compliment to him. He is the backbone of this batting order. He is going to prove to be an important player for India in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Ashwin gave an update on Shreyas’ injury

Shreyas was out of the limited overs series against New Zealand due to injury. He is currently undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. There is no official statement from the BCCI on his availability in the series against Australia. Regarding Shreyas’s injury, Iyer said that it seems he is currently suffering from a back problem and has taken an injection.
