An India vs Pakistan match could happen for the third time in the later stages provided both sides progress and then for the fourth time in the final of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan are scheduled to play Nepal in their opening group match on August 30 or 31 in Multan. The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held in Multan on the same day.

Lahore will serve as another venue for the Asia Cup matches in Pakistan

If the proposed itinerary is accepted. The Pakistan team will directly leave for Sri Lanka after their opening match against Nepal. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will play their group matches in Pakistan before traveling to Sri Lanka for the rest of the tournament.

The official announcement of the schedule will be made on Wednesday.

The event will be held from August 31 to September 17, as per the hybrid format proposed by the old PCB executive committee headed by Najam Sethi after India refused to travel to Pakistan.

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) finally adopts the hybrid format

Despite various obstacles, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) eventually adopted the hybrid format. Under this official agreement, the first four matches of the tournament will be played in Pakistan. After which it will be moved to Sri Lanka for nine matches including the final.

PCB Executive Committee chief Zaka Ashraf was the first to express significant resistance to the hybrid concept for the Asia Cup. However, he later confirmed that the board would honor its pledge to the ACC and its members by going ahead with a “hybrid model” for the Asia Cup. Although Ashraf does not fully accept this concept. He said that the PCB will respect the decision of the previous management.

Meanwhile, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer has been named tournament director of the Asia Cup.
