Former India striker and national selector Jatin Paranjpe believes Virat Kohli needs a break but is not on the verge of finishing. After Kohli’s continued meager patch, the debate about his form and cricket career has taken flame. From cricket fans to former players, everyone is doubtful about Kohli’s career.

“I think people who say he’s done do not know what they’re talking about. He’s far from done. There’s a lot more to come from him, he probably just needs a little break,” Paranjpe said.
While talking to cricket journalist and anchor Jamie Alter during an episode of his Glance chat show, Jatin Paranjpe said Kohli could take a break from the 50-over format.
He said, “It could be that he’s giving up the one-day game before other formats, at some point. If you look at the spread of India’s matches over a calendar year, you have about 20 ODIs, seven or eight test matches, sometimes ten, and then 10 T20 matches So if he really wants a break, it’s an option he can look at to get rid of the 50-over game, which is becoming more and more pointless at the bilateral level.

But Paranjpe’s opinion of taking a break from the 50-over format may do Kohli good, but his recent performance in the Edgbaston Test did not charm cricket lovers at all.
In the first inning, Kohli went cheaply to Matthew Potts in just 11 runs. While in the other rounds he looked good on the fold until English skipper Ben Stokes came to crack the form. With just 20 points, Kohli returned to the pavilion when Joe Root caught a good one-handed catch.

Speaking about Kohlis’ blow in the Edgbaston Test, Paranjpe said that luck did not benefit him in both rounds. “In this test match, he was unlucky in both rounds. He got an absolute snort in the second inning and looked good in the first dig before a moment of indecision. These things happen,” he added.
Paranjpe looks hopeful for Kohli in the near future because he believes there is much more than Kohli can offer the team. “A lot more is coming from him, which is the biggest positive for this Indian cricket team when it recalibrates itself. They will see a lot more contributions from Virat Kohli.”
