Spot-Fixing Crisis Looms Large Over Cricket world, Audio of Bangladeshi Players Goes Viral

New Delhi, Sports Desk. The threat of spot-fixing is looming large in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. Two players of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team have been accused of spot-fixing.

Lata was not Included in the Playing 11 in the match against Australia

Senior Bangladesh women’s cricket team player Shoheli Akhtar has been accused of offering a hefty amount to fellow all-rounder Lata Mandal for spot-fixing. However, Latha was not included in the playing 11 for the match against Australia. Bangladesh suffered an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has launched an investigation into the spot-fixing allegations.

A media organization quoted Bangladesh Cricket Board sources as saying, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board is looking into the matter strictly and will investigate it.” According to Bangladeshi media, Shoheli Akhtar has admitted to receiving an offer regarding spot-fixing from a bookie named Akash. During the conversation with Lata, Akhtar introduced Akash as his relative.

What did Shoheli Akhtar Offer?

Akash told Shoheli that all players are corrupt. To prove it wrong, Shoheli offered spot-fixing to Lata. A media house has claimed to have heard the recording of a conversation between Shoheli and Lata about the spot-fixing offer. In the audio that has surfaced, Shoheli initially suggests spot-fixing and tells Lata that there is nothing to be afraid of. I will not harm you.

Shoheli further said that whenever you want, do fixing and if you do not want to do so, then no problem. In the audio, Shoheli tells Lata that if you perform well in one match, you may get stumped or hit wicket in another. You will get 20 to 30 lakhs for hit wicket and Rs 5 lakh for stumping. Shoheli also said that if you find this amount less then you can tell, I will inform my relative about it.

What Answer did Lata give?

Lata Mandal replied, ‘I am not into all these things. I can’t do this. Please don’t tell me all this.’ Shoheli said these things will remain only between us, you trust me. Please tell that Lata Mandal has lodged a complaint with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the team management. BCB has assured investigation.
