The first edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be held from March 4 to 26 this year. The BCCI has released the press release regarding this. The tournament will be played at two stadiums in Mumbai- Braborn and DY Patil. A total of 22 matches will be played in both these stadiums.
Actually, after the Women’s T20 World Cup, this league is being made in only one place for the comfort of players and coaches. The Women’s T20 World Cup tournament will be played in South Africa from 10 to 26 February. The woman IPL will begin soon after.

At the same time, players will be bid in Mumbai on 13 February. A total of 1525 players had registered for the women’s IPL auction, out of which 409 players have been shortlisted. These include 246 Indians and 163 foreign players. Eight out of 163 foreigners are from associate countries. This year, five teams will be seen playing in the Women’s Premier League. These include teams of Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Jents, Lucknow Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals.
Out of 409 players, the total capped players are 202, while the number of uncapormed players is 199 and eight are from allied countries. In the capted category, players who have played Tests, ODIs or T20 matches for their country. At the same time, the player who does not play a single international match for his country calls unaccounted.

Five teams have a maximum of 90 slots available, out of which 30 are for foreign players. That is, a maximum of 90 players will be bid in the auction. This means that there will be a maximum of 16 players in a squad. The maximum number of players in a team in men is 25.
The highest base price of the players is Rs 50 lakh, with 24 players. These include Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup winning captain Shefali Verma. At the same time, 13 star foreign players like Ellis Perry, Sophie Eclastone, Sophie Divine and Diandra Dotin have kept themselves in the highest bracket of Rs 50 lakhs. There are 30 players in the auction list whose base price is Rs 40 lakh. Apart from these, players with base prices of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 30 lakh involved in the auction. A team’s purse will have a maximum of Rs 12 crore.

The BCCI has received Rs 4669.99 crore from selling five teams of this league, while selling media rights has earned Rs 951 crore. With this, the Women’s Premier League has become the second largest T20 league in the world after IPL. Three IPL franchisees Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitles have also bought teams in the Women’s Premier League.
Ahmedabad is the most expensive franchise. Adani’s ownership of Adani Sports Line Private Limited bought the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 1289 crore. Indiawin Sports Private Limited, owned by Reliance Group, bought the Mumbai franchise for Rs 912.99 crore.

Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited won the Bangalore franchise for Rs 901 crore. JSW GMR Cricket Private Limited bought the Delhi franchise for Rs 810 crore. At the same time, Capri Global Holdings Private Limited won the Lucknow franchise for Rs 757 crore.
